Week Two Reading Review.

This week's readings were actually very enjoyable to read.
I enjoyed chapter two more than chapter thirteen but only because
it was more applicable to my generation today.

A lot of the text talked about how media is becoming a few large
companies taking over smaller companies (concentration of ownership).
I have seen this in action with many companies such as
Disney picking up ABC.
It also talked a lot about how big the Internet, television and mobile companies
have become and how they're becoming such a huge
part of our everyday life.
Media multitasking is made easy today because of all the sources we
have available to us at once.
I really enjoyed chapter two's readings today because of the
way I can apply it to my own daily life.

Chapter thirteen, however, was interesting in some ways as well.
I enjoyed the section about Micro and Macro-level effects on people.
It's interesting to hear the arguments made by both levels
and how accurate or inaccurate I feel that they are.
I feel that most people are effected most by the macro-level.
Just by watching a video game that kills people doesn't mean that
teens are going to go out, buy a gun, and start shooting people like life is a video game.
It just gives them a more realistic look at how some places around the world live.
There are many places that are violent and this should be recognized.
I don't mean to say everywhere is like that, but we shouldn't be so naive to it that we have no
recognition of what the world is like.

All in all, these chapters were very enlightening.
I was able to absorb a lot of information and apply it to my everyday life.

Week One: Self Introduction.

Hello there Dr. Cooper!
For the first assignment I took your advice and started a blog
to jot down my assignments on.
Hope you enjoy :)

First thing's first:
I am currently a Junior in college. I have not yet been accepted to the
Journalism program because I haven't finished up my pre-classes yet
but I hope to be admitted after this year and continue my education as
a Journalism/Communications major with my emphasis in Print and a minor in Art.

All about Ashley Hawkins:
I am 21 years old, recently married as of two and a half months ago
to my wonderful husband Taylor Hawkins.
Here's us :)

I am originally from Grand Haven, Michigan but came to Utah to go
to live on the legacy in the family by attending Utah State University.
I currently live in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City while my husband
attends the Univeristy of Utah (I know, it's a crime).
My hobbies and passions include photography, cooking (and eating), writing, reading,
shopping, watching TV, running, working at my job,
and, of course, being with my husband.

The type of media I use most for my entertainment is the internet.
For news and information I look more towards T.V.
